In simultaneous interpretation , the source speaker is speaking, but only as quickly as the interpreter can reformulate the spoken message in the target language. This mode of interpreting is ideal for situations where there are people present who speak many different languages . Normally, in simultaneous interpreting (SI) between spoken languages the interpreter sits in a sound-proof booth, listening through headphones to the incoming message in the source language. The interpreter relays the message in the target language into the microphone to the listeners. Moreover, simulatneous interpretation is the common mode used by sign language interpreters. Note; Laymen most often incorrectly describe SI and the SI interpreter as 'simultaneous translation' and as the 'simultaneous translator', ignoring the definite distinctions between interpretation and translation.
